Rhinobatos hakelensis

Rhinobatos hakelensis is a rarely seen member of the Order Rajiformes, Family Rhinobatidae, and a member of the cartilaginous fishes known as "guitar fish" due to its body shape. Preservation of cartilage is much less common; preservation as fine as this is exceptional. Notice all the detail in the fins and preserved head structure. While this particular species when extinct by the end of the Cretaceous, the genus has lived on into the present. Fish is 11.5 cm long and is from Haqel, Lebanon.
