Phareodus encaustus Fish Fossil

This fossil has significant soft tissue preservation, a characteristic of many Green River Formation fish fossils. significant extent of soft-tissue preservation that makes the site famous is evident in this specimen. There are two Phareodus species found in the Green River Formation, encaustus and testis. Phareodus encaustus grows twice as large (this one is more than a foot long).
