Michigan Fossils

The Michigan state fossil is Mammut americanum (meaning different lizard), a Mastodon that roamed North and Central America during the late Miocene or late Pliocene until their extinction at the end of the Pleistocene 10,000 to 11,000 years ago. If I had my way, I would have picked stromatolites or banded iron, because Michigan is loaded with it, much dating to the early Proterizoic.
